IHCL Shares Innovative Approaches to Higher Education at the Advance HE Teaching and Learning Conference 2026

The International Humanitarian College London (IHCL) was proud to contribute to the Advance HE Teaching and Learning Conference 2026, held from 30 June to 2 July at the University of Sheffield.

Bringing together educators, researchers, academic leaders, and higher education professionals from across the UK and beyond, the conference explored this year's theme, "Success by Design: The Future of Learning Now." The event focused on how institutions can respond to evolving student expectations, technological change, and the growing need for more inclusive, flexible, and future-focused models of education.

Representing IHCL, Managing Director, Dr. Rod Brazier and Director of Academic Operations, Dr. Yuliia Shyshatska delivered three presentations showcasing the College's innovative work in learning design, leadership, and student experience.

One of the featured sessions introduced Adaptive Chunked Experiential Learning (ACEL), IHCL's pedagogical framework designed to make learning more engaging, accessible, and neuro-inclusive. The presentation explored practical strategies for reducing cognitive overload, strengthening student engagement, and creating structured learning experiences that support diverse cognitive profiles.

A second presentation, "The Brave Institution: Leading with Integrity, Empathy, and Innovation When Certainty Disappears," examined the leadership approaches needed to navigate uncertainty in higher education. Drawing on the experience of establishing the International Humanitarian College London, the session highlighted the importance of values-led leadership, institutional resilience, and building cultures that encourage trust, innovation, and collaboration.

The third session focused on the future of the student experience, exploring how universities can redesign their educational offer to become more adaptive, purpose-driven, and responsive to the needs of modern learners. Delegates were introduced to practical frameworks for personalised learning, inclusive support, and experiential education that help institutions better prepare students for academic and professional success.

Throughout the conference, the IHCL team welcomed valuable discussions with colleagues from across the sector, exchanging ideas on the future of higher education and the challenges and opportunities facing universities worldwide. The positive engagement and feedback received during each session reflected the growing interest in practical, human-centred approaches to learning and institutional transformation.

Speaking after the event, the team highlighted the importance of collaboration across the higher education community.

"Conferences like Advance HE provide an invaluable opportunity to share ideas, learn from peers, and collectively shape the future of higher education. We are grateful to everyone who attended our sessions and contributed to such meaningful conversations."

IHCL extends its sincere thanks to Advance HE for organising another outstanding conference and to all delegates who participated in the discussions. The College looks forward to continuing its work with partners across the sector to advance innovative, inclusive, and student-centred approaches to higher education.

As higher education continues to evolve, IHCL remains committed to developing learning models that empower students, support educators, and help institutions build resilient, future-ready educational environments.
